KS1 phonics and reading schemes
Helping children learn to read is an absolute priority for us. Once a child is a confident reader, they can then access all sorts of other learning. Confidence in reading usually translates into confidence in many other areas of children’s lives.
We teach, encourage and promote reading skills in all year groups. Please see attached document for more details by clicking here:

Sometimes children need extra help and support with their reading. We have a team of 3 Reading Intervention Teaching Assistants. They use the Fisher Family Trust reading progamme and the Better Reading Partnership Reading programme. They usually support children in Y2 and Y1.
We really encourage regular reading at home : it makes all the difference! Children who are heard read for 5 – 10 minutes every day, make far greater progress than those who do not.
In school, teachers will organised guided reading sessions, as well as many individual reading sessions as they can fit in. Normally each child will have 2 guided reading sessions and at least one individual reading session each week.
Please contact the class teacher if you have any questions about your child’s reading.
