Mr Derek Rushton
Chair of Governors
I have worked in three education authorities in primary education . Twenty-eight years of which were spent in senior management positions . In Cornwall I had the good fortune to serve as Head Teacher in two North Cornwall schools and retired from the last of these in 2008. Since that time I have served as Trustee and Chair on the Board of a community support organisation - CN4C and in the Bodmin area served as a trustee on the Berryfields Community Organisation. Currently I am serving as Chair of the Beacon Ace Academy a position I have held since the creation of the primary school on the amalgamation of Infant and Junior providers. The common thread in these positions is that they illustrate a commitment to equal opportunities for all families .
Mr Rob Blackhall OBE
Vice Chair of Governors
I am currently the Vice Chair of the Governing Body having joined in 2014. I am a retired Secondary Teacher having worked in a wide range of schools in the city and the country for 30 years.
In addition to teaching students, I was an examiner and moderator for several technical subjects at GCSE and A Leval. My managerial responsibilities, included being a subject leader, having responsibility for the pastoral care and academic progress of students, training and supervising Newly Qualified Teachers and the professional development of colleagues. My contribution to education was recognised in 2000 with an MBE for services to education.
I therefore, bring a wide range of experience to my role as a Governor being aware of the complexities and challenges of developing and managing a large school.
My vision for the new school is for us to continue to grow and develop together in a safe, happy, harmonious school environment where pupils become successful learners with good moral values.
Mrs Kaye Haywood
Mrs Terri Finn
Hello my name is Terri Finn and I am delighted to have been selected as parent governor for Beacon Ace Academy. I am a Mother of two children who both attend this school in KS1 and KS2.
Through this role I hope to help the school continue to provide excellence in education and build strong relationships between the parents and the school.
Since moving to Bodmin 5 years ago, myself and my family have helped and supported a number of community and charity groups/events. I believe that "every child has a right to a good education" but also that "parents can be supported to help their children achieve". As a parent at Beacon I can see that both statements are true. As a governor I'm hoping to see this continue and support both the School, its children and parents.
Mrs Jane Tong
I have worked at Beacon Ace Academy, formally Robartes Junior School, since 2005 and have taught across KS2 during my time here. I have been involved in the long journey that the school had been on to reach the point it is at today and have held a variety of responsibilities during this time of improvement.
My attraction to being a staff governor stems primarily from having a vested interest in the future of the school as it reaches out to provide exceptional opportunities to its pupils. I feel that in the role of governor, I would have a real input into the school improvement decisions, inspired by comments and ideas from my colleagues. I really enjoy being part of such an inspiring team and working with such innovative and amazing pupils and am passionate about providing them with a happy, safe and enriching environment where all the children can be encouraged to reach their full potential and develop a love of learning.
